Behavior
Black bears are very shy and solitary animals. Black
bears are only communal when they are either mating
or raising cubs. A mother bear will stay with her
cubs for the first year and a half of their life.
During that time period the cub will learn everything
he or she needs to for survival. Black bears are exceptionally
intelligent and adaptive to their environment. Most
of their foraging for food occurs at night, classifying
them as nocturnal animals. A black bear mother gives
birth every 18 months to a litter that normally consist
of 1-6 cubs. Male bears do not assist in the raising
of their young cubs.
